    • Rankings:
      The following points are awarded for 1st to 8th place: 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1.
    • Title:
      There are two titles in the DTM. The driver with the highest number of points at the end of the season becomes "DTM Champion". The title of "DTM Brand Champion" goes to the manufacturer whose drivers have together attained the highest number of points over the course of the year.
    • Pit stops:
      In the course of a race each driver is obliged to complete two compulsory pit stops, during each of which all four wheels must be replaced.
    • Qualifying session:
      In the so-called "shoot-out qualifying session" the starting positions are determined in four runs. In each run, the slowest drivers are knocked out. Their subsequent starting positions in the actual race are based on their placings in their final qualifying run. The other drivers progress to the next round. The remaining fastest four drivers at the end of these runs each complete a timed run to determine their positions in the first two starting rows. The fastest driver starts from pole position.
    • Aerodynamics:
      In summer 2009, the DTM’s two competing manufacturers Mercedes-Benz and Audi reached an agreement with the sport’s governing body ITR e.V. and the DMSB motorsport federation to freeze all further development on their existing DTM models which are already well up to the task in hand. There are no implications for action on the track – but in this way, they hope to make considerable cost savings.
    • Engine:
      A four-litre V8 engine with a cylinder bank angle of 90 degrees is stipulated for all vehicles.
    • Tyres:
      With immediate effect, the Hankook Tire Company is the exclusive tyre supplier to the DTM series. The contract with the Korean tyre manufacturer is scheduled to run for three years. Like many other components, the rules stipulate standardised brakes for both manufacturers.
